Bristol and District Cat Club - All Breed Championship Cat Show
2007

As published in Our Cats 23rd March 2007 - written by Emma Matthews

The Bristol and District Cat Club fourth all breeds championship show on the 17th of February made the move this year to a new venue in Melksham Wiltshire with a substantially larger entry than last year.  I was exhibiting so I arrived reasonably early at 8am and was delighted to go straight through vetting in and got my cats settled quickly.  I was glad that I had made an early start when I heard that people were stuck in stationary traffic behind an accident on the M5.  This caused a bit of a late queue for vetting in but everyone dealt with it well.  There were a few grumbles that, because of the size of the hall and the proximity of stands to pens, exhibitors could not look around the stands during the morning.  But for me this did not mar an otherwise excellent show and like many other people I took the opportunity to catch up with other breeders and consume large amounts of tea and bacon butties.  The show committee must be congratulated for the speed they got results out and the judges worked hard to get the classes judged in what felt like record time.

On exhibition was the handsome Pr Advelo Dylan owned by Mr I Haynes who had put a lot of effort into his pen with his authentic castle.  I liked the fact that his favourite past times, climbing a large tree and chasing crows, were represented in his emblem.

I had a really enjoyable day meeting lots of new people and their stunning cats.  One that really stood out was Mrs and Mrs Ashworth’s UK Gr Ch & UK & IMP Gr Pr Emerisle Diamante who following her recent success at the West County Championship show, where she became the first Ragdoll to be awarded overall best in show, won her Imperial and Grand Classes.  Another stunning Ragdoll was Candice Prowting’s kitten, Eiserblew Limited Addition.  This little miracle girl was hand reared by Candice from 2 weeks old and delighted her when she was awarded 1st and BOB.  There were some stunning Bengals and one that really caught my eye was Mrs Case’s Gr Pr Zawadi Swizzle who won her Imperial class.

It was really good to see such a child friendly show.  Lots of exhibitors had brought their children with them and hopefully many of them will go on to be the exhibitors and breeders of the future.  One young lady well on the way to future success was Trinity who proudly showed me the beautiful brown Burmese kitten Chingpai Brunette Cherokee, owned and bred by Miss & Dr Ludford.  Cherokee was named after the jeep in which she was born.  She made everyone very proud by getting a first and BOB in her class.

As the results for best of Variety were announced there were many tears of joy being shed.  Particularly emotional was Mrs Wilkinson when it was announced that her Tonkinese,  Bruno (Pr Mymystic Goldenshadow), had been awarded best foreign neuter. Mrs Wilkinson told me that Bruno is the apple of her eye.

Two exhibitors achieved a double.  Mrs C Mason took best semi longhaired adult with her Birman, Ch Sucette Midsummerknite and the best semi longhaired kitten with Felonie Stardust.  The other double winner was Anna Virtue with her beautiful Burmese,  the stunning Ch Papagena Vera Boronel who took best Burmese adult and her extremely handsome boy, UK & IMP Gr Ch & Gr Pr Hobberdy His Lordship (Bertie to his friends) who took best Burmese Neuter.  I asked Anna if I could take a picture and she open his pen and called him and he climbed leisurely out and up into her arms and proceeded to rub his face against hers.  He really is a true example of everything a Burmese should be in looks and personality.

I had an excellent day and hope to return next year.  I am sure everyone who went would like me to thank Kym & Ian Jarvis (joint show managers) and the rest of the show committee for all their hard work in making the show a success. The icing on the cake was the fact that due to their excellent management they were able to let everyone go home nice and early and before it got dark.
